2020 Seniors Card Discount Directory
A MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER Welcome to the 2020 edition of the Seniors Card Discount Directory, Your Lifestyle Guide . The South Australian Government is proud to support older Australians to live healthier, happier, more active and affordable lives. This guide (available online and in hardcopy) is one way we do this. It is also an important way of recognising and celebrating the role of older people in society and acknowledging the work they do. As always, the Directory offers a range of exciting discounts and special offers from the business community, and I would like to thank these companies and organisations for their generosity and support. The Directory also contains valuable consumer information on topics such as identifying scams, home repairs and shopping online. The South Australian Government continues to engage with older South Australians and listen to their views on what it means to age well. We embrace their desire to form and maintain strong and meaningful social and neighbourhood connections, as key to creating age-friendly communities across the state. We recognise that building an equitable society depends on us challenging the way ageing is framed in the language and structure of the services we deliver. A first step is developing and communicating a service culture across both government and non-government organisations, as well as the community, that respects the diversity of older people, supports their independence, and safeguards their rights. The South Australian Seniors Card program is an important part of this approach. The information and services it offers, including free public transport to members, helps older people to remain connected as vital members of our community. The Seniors Card program is part of a broader government agenda to work closely with the private sector and wider community to progress our vision of a state that supports older people to live better. Seniors Card members can subscribe to WeekendPlus, an exclusive free fortnightly digital magazine, which has information on a variety of events across the state in an easy-to-use format and includes competitions, money-saving ideas, news, recipes, and many opportunities to get out and be active. I encourage you to subscribe to WeekendPlus by emailing seniorscard@sa.gov.au. You may also like to visit the new Seniors Card Facebook page for the latest updates and activities available to members, and to share some of your own experiences of what it means to live and age well. The 2019 Seniors Card photographic competition and exhibition, Through the Lens , was a huge success. I congratulate all finalists and winners; the photos provided a fascinating insight into our state and its people, and prove that people can learn and contribute at any age. The 2020 competition will be held again this year and will be open to all Seniors Card members willing to have a go. I hope all South Australian seniors will take the time to explore the 2020 Seniors Card Discount Directory and make use of the many benefits it offers.
