This September join Mariska Beenkamp-Wladimirof who will present Arts National’s The Art of Laughter. In this lecture, Mariska explores the colourful and often humorous world of Dutch Golden Age painting, depicting people and animals misbehaving, being silly and laughing out loud. Some of these paintings represented common sayings, while others were created as moral lessons. They also coincided with a belief by contemporary doctors of the 17th century that laughing was good for your health.

Mariska Beenkamp-Wladimirof is a fully accredited PTLLS lecturer who read Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. Whilst having her three children, she completed her BA and MA in Art History, majoring in The Dutch Baroque Arts from the 17th century at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. She started as a College Lecturer, but soon after started her own company, Art Historical London, offering art historical lectures, museum visits, courses, tours, travel and events from Amsterdam, London and New York, and since 2020, online. She teaches on the public program of the Dulwich Picture Gallery and for the New York Adventure Club in the States.

Thanks to Arts National Adelaide and Seniors Card, five (5) lucky Seniors Card members have the opportunity to win a double pass to The Art of Laughter valued at $100. The lecture will take place at Burnside City Uniting Church on Wednesday, 23 September at 7.30pm.
