Winter is set to heat up for another year!

South Australia’s premier winter event Illuminate Adelaide is back this July with a program full of free and ticketed events that will light up Adelaide’s CBD.

Following on from sell-out hit Light Cycles, Adelaide Botanic Garden will host a new World Premiere event, Resonate, created by visionary Montreal experience makers Moment Factory. With a completely new trail that will span an entirely different section of the Garden – and a spot to have a drink en route – Resonate is an unmissable Illuminate Adelaide experience.

Moment Factory will also be taking over Illuminate Pavilion, which has found a new home in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga. Choose your own adventure and let your imagination guide you in Mirror Mirror, an immersive experience that is entirely of your own making. Select a door and explore the technological playground inside the Pavilion, where you can contribute to digital poems, see your words transformed into dazzling lighting displays, and watch as your movements affect light and sound around you.

Adelaide’s free city-wide centrepiece City Lights returns to take over the city streets with a whole new set of interactive and immersive light installations and visual artworks from around the world. Featuring an East End takeover with artworks by celebrated artist, cook, and television personality Poh Ling Yeow, and a special presentation at Government House, City Lights is the perfect opportunity to rug up, head out, and gather together with friends and family for a free night out.

UK artist collective Architects of Air make their way back to SA with Arborialis, an inflatable labyrinth of passageways and cathedral-like domes to explore for both the young and young at heart. An illuminated, inflatable landscape for you to explore at leisure, Arborialis is somehow both expansive and cosy, providing spaces to relax or be reinvigorated, inspired by elements from the Amazon.

Light Creatures returns as the family-favourite Illuminate Adelaide spectacular at Adelaide Zoo, featuring new creatures and opportunities to explore conservation and education on wildlife from around Australia and the world.

Music fans will love to hear that KLASSIK underground returns, featuring members of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the famed Gewandhaus Orchestra from Leipzig, Germany. Set at Dom Polski Centre and featuring visual artwork from Tim Gruchy and Joel Boardman (aka Joli.Vision), KLASSIK underground shoots classical music into the 21st century, bringing new meaning to traditional and well-known symphonies.

Australian rock legends Yothu Yindi will return to Adelaide with a performance that celebrates NAIDOC Week 30 years on from the release of their explosion onto the Australian music scene in the 1990s. With hits from Treaty to Tribal Voice, the ARIA Hall of Fame inductees will inject new fire into classic songs on the Hindley Street Music Hall stage.

Dance lovers will be thrilled to hear that the acclaimed Restless Theatre Company will present Shifting Perspectives, a work from Restless’ Artistic Director Michelle Ryan. Part dance performance, part artwork, this work features dancers moving throughout inventive light-and-mirror set pieces that explore bodies of light and the lightness of the body. This is an unmissable performance from one of South Australia’s most innovative companies, championing accessibility and self-expression.

There’s more where that came from! Illuminate Adelaide’s full program is filled with music, art, and talks from across the world. Explore the full program and start planning your winter!
