See the very best Asian and Asian Australian artists on display at Adelaide Festival Centre and Nexus Arts, this October-November, for OzAsia Festival.
Pink skies and magical feelings by Jessie Hui.
Step into the enchanting world of OzAsia Festival’s brochure cover image artist, South Australian Jessie Hui, in her colourful and dreamy solo exhibition Hello, how am I? Hui’s whimsical paintings capture the journey to finding peace in everyday life, through the eyes of a cat.
Reimagined realities and fantastical utopias capture Hong Kong’s dynamism, in the fantastical exhibition Wish You Were Here by Hong Kong artist Vivian Ho. Evoking solitude and yearning within urban landscapes, Ho’s art challenges perceptions and celebrates communal unity, offering profound inspiration and fresh ways of seeing the world.
Flinders University’s Discipline of Archaeology explores underwater cultural heritage from the Maritime Silk and Spice Route in the world premiere of Reuniting Cargoes. Showcasing trade ceramics from the 9th to the 19th centuries, alongside digital reconstructions of the ships they travelled on, the exhibition illustrates how archaeologists and communities use science to uncover the cultural importance of individual objects.
Adelaide Festival Centre’s outdoor screens will exhibit An Action for Mourning by Phuong Ngo, examining the Vietnamese Diaspora’s history of migration, using the motif of an origami sampan, folded out of Hell Bank Notes.
In a contemporary cross-cultural expression of Australian identity, South-Asian Australian slow fashion house Saree Selections will showcase their collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists on their latest collection of sarees, on display in Festival Theatre Foyer.
At Artspace, OzAsia Festival’s Artist in Schools resident Jingwei Bu presents Life Maps, made in collaboration with children aged 3-7, reflecting the diverse experiences of life through simple yet profound drawings tracing life’s steps.
