Featuring Andrea González Caballero and Flamenco Suite by Compañía Flamenca Antonio Andrade

The Adelaide Guitar Festival is a proud celebration of Adelaide’s designation as a UNECSO City of Music.

UNESCO is known worldwide for its efforts to preserve and promote cultural heritage, protect and promote human rights, and support education, science, and culture.

In 2016, Adelaide was designated as a UNESCO City of Music for its vibrant music scene, cultural heritage, music education, and diverse music events and festivals.

The Adelaide Guitar Festival pays tribute to the world’s most versatile instrument. Each year globally renowned guitarists deliver passionate live performances, and this year is no exception.

One of the influential music genres in Adelaide is Flamenco, which is a guitar-oriented style of music that originated in Andalusia, southern Spain.

Flamenco has been an integral part of South Australia's music scene for nearly five decades, and the genre's strong emotional expression and passionate rhythm have attracted a significant following.

In Adelaide, Flamenco is celebrated through various events and festivals like the Adelaide Guitar Festival, which regularly features international flamenco artists.

Many events and performances of Flamenco music also take place in the city's theatres, cafes, and bars, which attract a diverse audience, including flamenco enthusiasts and musical tourists.

The 2023 Adelaide Guitar Festival program includes a special performance celebrating the beauty and passion of flamenco, Colours of Spain. Featuring Andrea González Caballero and Flamenco Suite by Compañía Flamenca Antonio Andrade, it will celebrate Adelaide’s UNESCO Creative Cities connection with Seville, a fellow UNESCO City of Music.

The two-part fiesta will showcase the extraordinary talent of Andrea González Caballero, hailed as the female voice of the Spanish Guitar (Operaworld Magazine), who has entranced audiences with her virtuosity since the age of 8.

Antonio Andrade and his brilliant company of five gifted dancers and four astounding musicians will take audiences on a journey travelling through the stunning spectrum of Andalusian dance styles in Flamenco Suite. This leading company, direct from Seville, embodies the essence of flamenco’s rich cultural heritage, while embracing the influences of jazz, Arabic, and Latin American music on this most iconic Spanish artform.

Be enchanted by an evening of breathtaking performances and passionate emotion.
