Francisco Lara Puerto, better known as Paco Lara, is an acclaimed flamenco guitarist from the birthplace and cradle of flamenco, Jerez de la Frontera in Spain.

Coming from a musical family, Paco started playing guitar at a very young age, when he was only 8 years old. At the tender age of 16, he began working professionally as a flamenco guitarist.

Over the years, he has honed his skills and developed a distinctive style that is a testament to his deep respect for flamenco traditions, as well as his willingness to experiment and push boundaries.

In 2017, Paco moved with his family to Australia and has since called Down Under his home. He has performed across the country with different flamenco dance companies, bringing authentic flamenco guitar sounds to Australian fans.

One of the most significant impacts of Lara's artistry has been his ability to expand the traditional boundaries of flamenco guitar. While he is deeply steeped in the traditional styles and techniques of the genre, he is also unafraid to incorporate elements from other musical forms, such as jazz, blues, and Latin music. This fusion of diverse influences has created a unique sound that has not only broadened the appeal of flamenco guitar but has also contributed to its continued evolution.

Lara's music is also notable for its emotional depth and expressive lyricism. He has a keen understanding of the connection between flamenco music and the human experience, and he is particularly adept at conveying the complex emotions that lie at the heart of the genre.

His performances are more than mere displays of technical virtuosity; they are deeply felt expressions of joy, sadness, passion, and longing.

Lara's influence has also extended beyond the world of music. He has collaborated with visual artists and choreographers, as well as other musicians, to create multidisciplinary works that incorporate flamenco within a broader cultural context.

He has worked with leading dance companies such as the Sydney Dance Company, and his collaborations with visual artist William Mackinnon have resulted in several compelling exhibitions.

Most significantly, however, Lara's impact on the genre has been his ability to attract new audiences to flamenco guitar. His concerts are a testament to his ability to engage his audiences and draw them into the world of flamenco.

Whether he is playing to a packed house in a concert hall or performing at an intimate venue, Lara's music has a unique ability to transcend cultural and linguistic barriers and create a shared experience that is both meaningful and powerful.

Paco Lara’s virtuosity, passion, and innovative spirit have helped to elevate flamenco guitar to new heights, and his influence has been felt not only within the musical community but also beyond it.

By introducing new audiences to the beauty, complexity, and emotional depth of flamenco guitar, Lara has helped to secure the genre's ongoing relevance and vitality. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire the next generation of flamenco artists in Australia and around the world.

Inspired by his hometown of Jerez, in the heartland of flamenco, Paco Lara’s Duende encapsulates the intense soul and passion of this rich genre. Hailed as "magnificently entertaining" by City News, this performance promises a unique blend of cultures, imagination, and the fervour of flamenco.
