There is a quiet power in ritual, and few practices are as beautiful and deeply ritualistic as the simple act of brewing and sharing tea. This ancient practice spans cultures, generations, and continents - aromatic, steeping and flowing, it unites and it heals.

It is this timeless ritual that Tea House invites us to delve into more consciously for both a moment of calm and as a profound encounter with nature, community, and ourselves.

More than just a space, Tea House is a living, breathing sanctuary, an immersive sensory experience set within a specially designed setting nestled in the Australian Forest at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. A place where the slow unfolding of a tea ceremony transforms into an invitation to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the rhythms of the natural world and the people who share it.

Tea House is a drop-in event (no registration required) for all ages.

The Tea House experience

Set against the backdrop of towering eucalyptus trees and dappled sunlight, visitors step into a curiously crafted set designed to awaken the senses and nurture presence. Here, the air is fragrant with native botanicals and freshly brewed tea. The gentle clinking of cups and soft conversations mingle with the sounds of the forest, the rustling leaves, and distant bird calls.

Every cup of tea served is specially blended by Warndu, an Aboriginal-owned company. These native teas carry stories. Their flavours and aromas hold the memories of seasons, the soil, and the hands that have tended these plants for generations. To share in these teas is to honour ancient wisdom, celebrate connection, and ground ourselves more deeply in the unfolding moment.

Tea House is a living project of collaboration and community. It embodies values of longevity, social connection and meaningful contribution, inviting South Australians of all ages to participate as storytellers within this unfolding ritualistic journey.

Tea House encourages you to relax, take in the smell, sound and surroundings with every sip, to feel deeply, and to be present. In doing so, you’re offered an opportunity to attune yourself to the flow of time, nature, and community. A feeling of flow is found in every aspect of Tea House, from the ceremonial pouring of tea to the stories that flow through the shared moments and connecting across generations.

Tea House is located in the Australian Forest, Adelaide Botanical Gardens. South Australians of all ages are encouraged to drop-in during the following opening times:

  • Wednesday 1 October - Sunday 5 October, 10.00am - 3.30pm
  • Saturday 11 October, 10.00am - 3.30pm
  • Sunday 12 October, 10.00am - 3.30pm

Tea House at home

Tea House’s reach extends beyond the Botanic Gardens. Recognising that not everyone can visit in person, the project has developed an ‘at home’ experience for more than 1,200 residents in selected aged care homes across South Australia. These carefully curated packages include the native teas served at Tea House, beautifully designed materials, participation guides, and videos of the live Tea House events. Through this, the gentle invitation to connect with nature, culture, and community touches lives far beyond the physical space. This outreach amplifies Tea House’s mission, to remind us all that nature and ritual are for everyone, regardless of circumstance or ability. It is a deeply human gesture, a reminder that even in times of challenge or isolation, connection remains possible through shared experience and cultural generosity.

At its core, Tea House is about presence. It’s about finding stillness in movement, connection in quietness, and joy in the shared journey between self, others, and the land. It is a celebration of the wisdom carried by older generations and the renewal brought by younger ones. It is a space where stories flow freely, enriched by the landscape and the hands that prepare each cup.

Tea House reminds us that in every shared ritual, in every carefully tended moment, there is a flow, a passage from one heart to another, from one generation to the next, from the earth to our hands and lips. This flow carries with it healing, connection, and a profound sense of belonging.

Tea House is delivered in partnership with Office for Ageing Well and Seniors Card as a part of South Australia’s Week of Ageing Well
