The City of Charles Sturt has used an Age Friendly SA Grant from Office for Ageing Well, SA Health, to present a series of Meaningful Ageing Workshops.

Guided by South Australia’s Plan for Ageing Well 2020-2025, the council created wellness workshops and presentations to benefit community members to age well, build resilience and take their learnings back into the community.

COVID-19 put a little pause on the project, but with the support of Office for Ageing Well, the council continued the workshops through to November 2021.

Presentations included:

  • Building positive habits for physical, mental, and emotional health
  • Overcoming grief and loss in downsizing
  • Understanding aged care costs
  • Estate planning
  • Ageing in diversity for LGBTI people
  • Scams and digital safety
  • Building resilience and wellbeing using individual strengths.

Participants expressed their satisfaction with the program:

“Clear presentation, with a singular strong point to make about dealing with loss. PowerPoint presentation reinforced the message. A well spent hour and a half.”

“The workshop exceeded my expectations because it presented some fresh approaches.”

“Thank you … I find interactive more useful than reading books on this matter.”

The City of Charles Sturt hopes to continue the presentations in 2022 and would welcome community members’ suggestions on what might help them to age well.
