Alexandrina Council is using community feedback to reshape its online offerings, at the same time assisting to improve local digital literacy skills.

Through the Alexandrina Seniors Tech Engagement project, supported by Office for Ageing Well through an Age Friendly SA grant, the council consulted older residents via group conversations and interviews about the website and how they used technology.

It heard older people want to be able to access information about what was happening in the community and how they could connect with others. Many also felt it was important that written information was offered.

The project used a co-design approach to work on ways to improve access to community information, upskill in digital literacy, and increase useability of the website. Staff were trained in creating accessible documents to support the project.

Using feedback from the consultation, the Council’s website has been reviewed and updated including the addition of fresh age friendly content. This includes information about social opportunities and links to information and resources. The Community Noticeboard is a resource allowing searches for events and activities in the region.

Alexandrina Council Libraries team is currently planning the next round of education sessions with small groups of people keen to understand and learn from one another.
