What is Walking Football?
It’s a low impact game with modified rules (no running or physical contact) that's ideal for both male and female seniors. It’s not just for those that ‘used to play’ but many who play have no previous experience.
It's a great way to keep physically active in a fun, safe and inclusive environment. It also promotes social wellbeing in a friendly team environment. In other words it provide physical and mental health benefits.
Particularly beneficial to older players (over 50s), the majority of participants are over 60 and many over 70. Social games are played each week and occasional competitions are available for those that want something a little more.
Starting in the UK, Walking Football has massive participation with over 1,200 registered clubs and 40,000 registered players plus many more casual players. This growth has spread worldwide and is now becoming very popular in Australia. A demonstration match is scheduled for half time in the Socceroos game with Japan.
Currently there are three locations in Adelaide where you can play and more set to open as interest increases. See below for times and locations. First session is free, so come and try. There is also a group in the Adelaide Hills and soon more regional locations.
