Getting together for a round of golf, a hit of tennis or swimming a few laps with friends can mean more than just staying fit and healthy as we age gracefully.

Being with like-minded people and spending time with friends while being active can be just as important for a person’s mental health and wellbeing as it is for their physical health.

Connecting with others is essential for a person’s wellbeing – we can avoid loneliness and it can combat depression. When you add in a bit of exercise, the endorphins start flowing and we automatically feel better.

The Australian Masters Games, being held in Adelaide 7 - 14 October, offers the ideal opportunity to meet new people, socialise and get in some exercise while taking part in any of the 50+ sports on offer – no matter what level your fitness is at or your standard of competition.

If you can’t find a team and want to take part, there are always teams on the lookout for extra people in the lead-up to the games – check out the Bulletin Board under The Sports tab on the Australian Masters Games website. The Australian Masters Games Facebook page can also help connect you to like-minded people so you can enjoy the competitive aspects of the games.

It’s not just about sport at the Australian Masters Games either – the social program provides something for everyone to enjoy, with plenty of opportunities to meet new people throughout the week.

Headlined by time-travelling DJ Hot Dub Time Machine, events include the Opening and Closing ceremonies, a Billy Joel tribute concert, Bogan Bingo, daily Happy Hours at SkyCity Village at Festival Plaza, bands, and a Foreshore Fiesta at Glenelg.
