Office for Ageing Well is seeking feedback on draft Regulations to support the Retirement Villages (Miscellaneous) Amendment Act 2024. The Amendment Act was passed by Parliament in November 2024, and it is anticipated the new legislation will commence in early 2026.

Before this, the Retirement Village Regulations 2017 require updating to provide additional detail on a range of operational requirements. This consultation provides an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on the proposed draft regulations.

The proposed regulations cover topics including:

  • updated Codes of Conduct for operators, staff, and residents of retirement villages
  • requirements for additional information to be provided to prospective residents in contracts and disclosure statements
  • minimum requirements for emergency procedures and safety planning of villages
  • updating dispute resolution processes and resident committee obligations
  • arrangements for raising and considering alterations to residence rules.
