COTA SA is an independent not-for-profit organisation run by, with and for older South Australians. It is currently seeking volunteers for its COTA Visitors friendship program, which matches older people who may be socially isolated or lonely, with a friendly volunteer who lives in their area and has similar interests.

For older people, periods of loneliness or isolation can result from life-changing events such as the loss of a partner or close friends, health and mobility issues that may prevent engagement in social activities or losing touch with culture and heritage.

Such events can deeply affect the mental wellbeing of an older person so regular catch-ups with a friendly volunteer can help improve their quality of life and feeling of connectedness to the world.

COTA SA has older people living all over metropolitan Adelaide who are registered and waiting for a new friend. With a broad range of interests and backgrounds, you might just be a perfect match for someone!

COTA Visitors volunteer Beverley said “helping someone else has a boomerang effect. We get back what we give - joy!”

Contact COTA SA to find out how you can bring joy to an older person by becoming a valuable COTA Visitor. Apply online or call COTA SA’s staff and volunteers on 8232 0422.
