Over 300 people throughout the Riverland were challenged to garden differently during a series of presentations as a part of Berri Barmera Landcare’s Better Home Garden Project.

With the aid of an interactive comparative model, presenter Andrew Walladge passionately spoke about many aspects of gardens that make them special places to enjoy and share. Topics covered included how to manage change in your garden, planting to create interesting sounds, fragrances, and special places to contemplate just out the back door.

Many attendees reported they were inspired to make positive changes. One attendee said, “Lovely presentation. I am inspired to change in my garden to make it easier to maintain.”

Another noted it was, “an absolutely wonderful way to promote gardens, wellbeing, community with visuals, smells, sounds. models.” One attendee discussed, “Excellent presentation. Inspired to get back in the garden. Love the idea of inviting bird and insect sounds in the garden.”

Attendees were challenged to think about their garden differently and many decided to change the way they gardened as an aid to improving their wellbeing.

Andrew Walladge, Project Officer, Berri Barmera Landcare said, “The presentations were well received, and it was a delight to bring a message of ‘life can be better in the garden and here’s how to do it’, to lively and responsive audiences. Many people had their own experiences to share, which in turn motivated others to make positive changes in their own outdoor living spaces.”

The events were held in all the Riverland’s town libraries, including the new Berri Library. The presentation was also bought to special interest groups.
