As the sun comes out many of our bikes do too.
Did you know that catching public transport doesn’t mean you need to leave your bike at home?
Here is everything you need to know about your bike and public transport.
Travelling on public transport is FREE with your South Australian Seniors Card
Your South Australian Seniors Card is also your Adelaide Metro metroCARD.
Public transport travel is free all day, every day for South Australian Seniors Card members. To access the free travel, simply validate your Seniors Card each time you board a service or pass through barrier gates.

Take your bike on a train
As a Seniors Card member, you can take your bike on a train for free anytime provided there is space available onboard. You can secure your bike in an empty wheelchair space, however, please keep in mind that you must move it if someone using a mobility aid needs the area.
If you need assistance to get your bike on board, please ensure you have a family member or friend with you. Unfortunately, our drivers are not able to help with this aspect of your travel.
Ride your bike to the bus or tram stop
Bikes are not allowed on buses or trams as there is not enough space for passengers to move around them safely, and there are no dedicated areas to secure your bike when the vehicle is moving. But don’t let that stop you from choosing an active lifestyle! There are numerous bike cages and lockers around the network so you can cycle to your bus or tram stop.
Bike cages and locker locations
To store your bike securely, Adelaide Metro bike cages and lockers are available across the public transport network – including three new bike cages at Old Reynella, Smithfield and Salisbury interchanges.
Use this interactive map to locate your closest facility.
If you would like to use a bike cage or locker, your Seniors Card will need to be registered with Adelaide Metro. If your Seniors Card is currently anonymous, please contact the Seniors Card Unit to update your details.
How to use a bike cage
Bike cage access is free for public transport users and just needs to be set up on your Seniors Card. You can either visit the InfoCentre at the Adelaide Railway Centre or call the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108 to have the bike cage product added.
Once you have set this up, open the bike cage by tapping your Seniors Card on the validator at the entrance.
Please note, bicycles and helmets are stored at your own risk. Please ensure you use an appropriate lock to secure your bike. Any bikes or accessories left in cages for more than two weeks will be removed and disposed of.
How to use a bike locker
If you have your eye on a bike locker, just call the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108 to confirm availability or to join a waiting list. The bike locker key can be collected and returned to the Adelaide Railway Station InfoCentre.
A $50 deposit is required to hire a locker, which will be refunded when you are finished and return the key.
Plan your ride
Try out the Cycle Instead Journey Planner for your next bike ride.
This online interactive tool generates cycling routes using Adelaide's Bikedirect network of main roads, bike lanes, local streets, off-road paths and some unsealed paths.
It also allows you to choose a variety of options that take into consideration fitness and confidence levels, road conditions and speed of travel.
As always, if you have any questions about public transport, just call the Adelaide Metro InfoLine on 1300 311 108 (7am to 8pm, daily).
Happy riding!
