This year, OzAsia Festival’s music program brings a diverse range of artists to Adelaide – from alternative K-Pop, to avant-garde, to rap, hip-hop and electronica, there’s something to get everyone’s toes tapping.
Bridge of Dreams sees award-winning saxophonist Sandy Evans team up with preeminent Australian and Indian musicians. This is a rare opportunity to see world-class musicians on the stage, and it sold out during its 2019 Sydney Festival season, so be sure to get in quick before tickets get snapped up here, too.
South Korean alternative pop and funk sensation LEENALCHI are teaming up with Australian-Korean rappers 1300 for a never-before-seen double bill, exclusive to Adelaide. Another never-before-seen line-up graces the Nexus Arts stage with Eastmode in the West End, curated by multi-award-winning artist Kuya James and renowned DJ and curator DIOLA.
If you’ve never heard Margaret Leng Tan’s music, get ready to be blown away by her performance in Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep, an autobiographical performance that covers Tan’s 50-year career in avant-garde music, which all began with the toy piano. Something else a little different sees Mindy Meng Wang teams up with Anita Quayle and Daniel Jenatsch to create When, an audio-visual exploration of the isolating effects of a worldwide pandemic.
There are also chances to enjoy free music performances with Chinese Music Day at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Lucky Beats in Lucky Dumpling Market, The Rat Catcher of Angkor Wat in Festival Plaza, and Hyoshi in Counterpoint in the Festival Theatre foyers.
