Palliative care plays a vital role at the end-of-life and in improving the quality of life for individuals, families, and carers. It is estimated that 40 million people worldwide would benefit from palliative care, but only 14% receive the care that they need.

The State Government has made a commitment to improve and diversify quality palliative care options in South Australia.

The Palliative Care 2020 Grants Program funded 16 non-government organisations (NGOs) to undertake 17 projects that improved care in residential aged care facilities and for priority populations; and improved workforce capacity to better identify and respond to people’s palliative care needs.

Building from its success, the Palliative Care 2022 Grants Program offers grants of up to $75,000 to NGOs for projects that improve palliative care services in four focus areas:

  • Improve palliative care data collection, monitoring and reporting
  • Extend palliative care support to patients and practitioners treating non-malignant diseases
  • Improve access to palliative care in the community (including grief and bereavement)
  • Increase the number and involvement of primary care practitioners in palliative care

Non-Government Organisations include not-for-profit health and community services, residential aged care facilities, private health service providers, general practitioner clinics, community pharmacists, carer support organisations, Aboriginal community controlled health organisations, universities, local community groups and clubs, and more.

Applications close on Sunday 20 March 2022.
