The Australian Melanoma Research Foundation (AMRF) will once again partner with the Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) to host the Adelaide 2025 Melanoma March. The Foundation is calling on the SA community to join in the Melanoma March 2025 national campaign, to increase awareness and raise funds to save lives from melanoma.

The campaign, now in its 14th year, is MIA’s flagship fundraising campaign and invites participants to join a family-friendly event during the month of March. The events held all around Australia are organised and run by volunteers. This is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to remember lives lost to melanoma and support those affected by this cancer.

Adelaide Melanoma March 2025 will be held on Sunday 23 March at 8.00am to 11.00am at Henley Square, Henley Beach. The march will commence at 9.00am, arrive early, check in and grab your participants bib, we’ll have sunscreen available and after the Welcome speech, we are off through the arch to walk from Henley Square to Grange Jetty and return, 4km in total along the coastal path at your own pace. Lions Skin Cancer screening unit will be providing free skin spot checks for participants and Melanoma Patients Australia will be in attendance to provide information and support.

Australia has the highest melanoma rates in the world. One person is diagnosed with melanoma every 30 minutes and one person dies from the disease every 6 hours. It is the most common cancer affecting Australians aged 20–39, but the incidence for people over 60 is also high and increasing due to the cumulative sun exposure. Two thirds of melanoma treatment was provided to people over 65.

This year’s campaign also aims to shine a spotlight on the dangers of tanning and the need for all Australians to follow the five sun safe rules to prevent melanoma and other skin cancers.

The AMRF and the MIA share the ambition of one day achieving zero deaths from melanoma. Funds raised go to melanoma research and will ensure melanoma patients across Australia benefit from current evidence-based clinical best practice. The National Melanoma Clinical Guidelines are not funded by Government.
