The Australian Government is making changes to in-home aged care to help older people live safely and independently at home for longer. From November 2025, the new Support at Home program will replace Home Care Packages and Short-Term Restorative Care.

You can find further information about the Support at Home program here:

As part of this change, people will be able to access Assistive Technology (AT) and Home Modifications (HM) more easily from 1 November 2025 through the Support at Home Program, without needing to save up funds in their care package. Instead, they’ll be approved for a level of AT-HM funding based on their needs.

As part of these changes, the Commonwealth Government is working in partnership with existing State and Territory Government provided equipment programs to investigate the feasibility of a new AT Loans Scheme to help people borrow equipment locally, quickly, and in a way that suits their changing needs. If feasible, this will be implemented at a later date.

We’d love to hear from you if:

  • You’re aged 65 or over, live in South Australia and have been prescribed AT equipment, or
  • You care for someone aged 65+ living in South Australia who has been prescribed this kind of equipment.

To have your say, please complete this short questionnaire by 10 August 2025.
