ANFE Community Care is an aged care and disability support provider offering groups and activities tailored to help combat social isolation. In 2022, it launched three new services, as vital supports for older people living alone and with minimal social interaction.

Older adults are often at higher risk of social isolation, loneliness, and negative effects due to changing health and shrinking social connections with the loss of friends and family.

These can compound issues and lead to further problems as isolation and loneliness are associated with higher risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, anxiety and depression.

One way to protect against social isolation and its effects is to connect with others through social groups and other community activities.

The Arts & Craft group meets every Tuesday and combines the fun of making things with a social, connective environment. Attendees aren’t just creating craft pieces, they’re making new friends at the same time!

The Arts & Craft group has new activities each week that align with significant cultural events in the community such as Carnevale, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter Holidays.

If you or someone you know like to get out, enjoy sightseeing and mingling with others, the Out & About service could be a great fit! ANFE Community Care bus can pick up attendees for an adventure with others in the community – a great way to get out of home and enjoy the delights of Adelaide.

Once per week the social support group runs a games day providing additional activities to promote interaction and motivate physical and mental activity. Joining Day Care With a Difference allows attendees to join in for some bocce, bowls, ten-pin bowling, quoits and other assorted games as part of a group.

If you or someone you know is interested in joining a group activity, call ANFE Community Care friendly staff on (08) 8234 5550.

ANFE Community Care is supported by Office for Ageing Well through the Ageing Well in CALD Communities Grants, to deliver education and awareness-raising activities, aimed at safeguarding the capacity of older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds to age well and live a safe, healthy and independent life.
