Government House is hosting a series of free winter events to hear inspirational South Australians in conversation with the Governor.

On the fourth Friday of June, July and August, Her Excellency the Hon Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia will engage notable South Australians in conversation on topics pertinent to the success of South Australia and the wellbeing of its people. There will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions of both Her Excellency and the guests.

The first session will be held on Friday, 23 June 2023, and will feature Order of Australia recipients, academic Marnie Hughes-Warrington AO and Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Darren Hicks OAM.

Professor Hughes-Warrington is globally recognised as a philosopher and historian, who was honoured with an AO for distinguished service to tertiary education and governance as an administrator, leader, and mentor. Her work seeks to explain why histories and historical thinking play an important role in making a good, fair, and just world.

Paralympic cyclist Darren Hicks won gold and silver medals in Tokyo. He grew up as a devoted BMX rider but after losing his leg in a road accident in 2014 and a lengthy recovery, he decided to try track cycling, becoming a two-time World Champion and a 2020 Paralympic gold medallist.

The second session – Mental Health and body image – will be held on Friday, 28 July 2023, and will feature Breakthrough Mental Health Foundation Chief Executive Officer John Mannion, and 2023 Australia of the Year, Taryn Brumfitt.

The third session – Women's Advancement – will be held on Friday, 25 August 2023, with guest speaker to be announced.

Sessions will run from 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

Book here for the first session on Friday 23 June 2023.

The Winter Conversation series follows on from the successful Lunch on the Lawns initiative which supported a key priority of Her Excellency to make Government House a house for all South Australians.
